ViVE2024 – Two Thumbs Up, But Maybe it’s Time to Dial It Back?

The ViVE2024 event was a hit with the Swaay.Health team, but given the layoffs and belt-tightening happening in healthcare, perhaps it is time to dial back some of the nice-to-have aspects.

ViVE2024 By the Numbers

The Swaay.Health team arrived at their respective homes completely exhausted after a whirlwind 4 days at ViVE2024 in Los Angeles. To give you an idea of what we did, here are some fun numbers we tracked:

  • 239,000 Total Steps (4 people x 4 days)
  • 57 Video Interviews for Health and Healthcare IT Today
  • 15 Visits to the Puppy Park
  • 13 After-hour events attended

A special thank-you to Connected Health Initiative for sponsoring our Monday evening event. It was a huge success with almost 100 RSVPs.

Our Impressions of ViVE2024

After a short weekend to decompress, the Swaay.Health team got together on Zoom to discuss our impressions of ViVE2024.

The verdict – the event was excellent. John Lynn and Brittany Quemby each gave a “thumbs up” for the overall quality and execution. For John, the food continues to be a nice touch because it helps reduce expenses for attendees – especially those from provider organizations. For Brittany, the consistency of the event branding was impressive.

However, all three of us felt that there is an opportunity to dial back on some of the more extravagant elements of ViVE. In particular, the industry event that features a known music artist is a nice touch, but at a time when many Health IT professionals have been laid off and when many provider organizations are cutting expenses (ie: travel bans), partying at a concert just seems a little too much.

It’s not hard to understand why some CIOs elected not to attend this year’s concert with Billy Idol. Just imagine the internal political fallout of a picture posted to social media of them whooping it up in the crowd.
